Governor General Pays Tribute to DRSC Work
Governor General of Australia His Excellency, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Ret'd) has highlighted the importance of the Defence Reserves Support Council's (DRSC) programs across Australia.
As Patron for the DRSC, Sir Peter took time out of his busy schedule to chat with South East-New South Wales DRSC Deputy Chair Steve Williams at a recent community leader's forum held in Bega on the NSW south coast.
Mr Williams said that during his conversation with Sir Peter, the Governor General paid tribute to the raft of initiatives the DRSC has implemented across Australia.
"The Governor General was undertaking a planned regional visit. He has visited specific areas in the Bega Valley Shire area and visited the Bega Shire Council facilities," Mr Williams said.
"There were about 50 invitees who reflected people who were considered to be contributing to the wider Bega community. These included charity workers, Australia Day awardees, indigenous representatives and school students and staff.
"Sir Peter indicated that he saw the DRSC as having a continuing and important role to play in the Reserve and Employer area in highlighting the value of Reserve service to civilian employers."
Mr Williams said the Governor General's address and subsequent one on one discussion with attendees were well received.
