SQLD Town Hall Meeting - 2017
Town Hall Meetings a Success
The South East Queensland Defence Reserves Support Committee (SEQLD DRSC) has been out in the field meeting Reservists and their employers, through a series of 'Town Hall' meetings.
The concept of community meetings for the DRSC is not new; where committee members facilitate a question and answer type forum (less talking and more listening). The SEQLD DRSC has sought to hear first-hand some of the issues which challenge both the Defence Reserve employer and employee through this community meeting model.
The last meeting for the SEQLD DRSC 2016 was held at RAAF Base Amberley in November, where members of the committee listened and gained a deeper understanding of some of the issues experienced by the Reservist and their employers.
Feedback received from the group was that having the opportunity to meet other employers and listen to issues being debated, such as the optimal defence leave provisions for private industry and the employer support payment scheme was 'gold'.
DRSC SEQLD provided a short presentation on their role and that of the Defence Reserves Support team and shared details about the Prince of Wales Award and the Tasman Scheme and encouraged Air Force Reservists to submit nominations for these programs.
Town Hall meetings provide an excellent opportunity to engage with employers and employees, to hear and address some of their issues on the spot, and provide updates on upcoming employer challenge days and employer engagement events.
DRSC SEQLD will hold their next Town Hall meeting in February 2017 at the Greenbank Military Training Area, where Army Reserve employers will be invited to attend.
