EXERCISE CHONG JU

Defence Reserves Support Victoria (DRSC Vic) hosted a group of 20 employers from Canberra, Victoria and Tasmania on a chilly Puckapunyal day early in May at the annual Exercise Chong Ju.

This annual firepower demonstration showcases the capabilities of tanks, artillery, armoured fighting vehicles and infantry, as well as close air support and an Armed Reconnaissance Helicopter, and how they integrate in an operational environment via a Combat Team Attack in real time. The activity is coordinated and conducted on Puckapunyal Range by the Combined Arms Training Centre over two days.

Reservists were invited to nominate their employers through a notice on ForceNet while some of the employers were approached directly by DRSC Vic. The group was escorted on the day by Mr Tony Walker, DRSC Vic and Major Peter Reardon, Assistant State Manager, DRS Vic. As well as seeing – and hearing! - our latest military hardware up close, the spectators also got to hear the live radio traffic leading up to and during the combat scenario.

The group of employers was joined by Commander 2nd Division, Major General Kathryn Campbell, AO, CSC, who spoke at length with them about the contribution of reservists and the importance of employer support to ADF capability.
